Commitment to Action:
“Planting Trees Make my Canton Feliz”

Commitment by: Marta Romero

Focus Area: Environment and Climate Change

Geographic Scope: El Salvador

Project Description
“Planting Trees Makes My Cantón Feliz” will reduce the deforestation in Cantón La Isla, El Salvador by creating environmental awareness and increasing tree canopy cover. The population of Cantón La Isla is about 125 families, and most of them are farmers, meaning they cut down trees to have a clear area to plant their crops such as corns, beans, watermelons and vegetables. “Planting Trees Makes My Cantón Feliz” will impact Canton La Isla through implementing techniques such as monitoring tree survival, replanting, increasing trees canopy cover from 2% to 10% over time, while explaining to people why reforestation is crucial.
